In 1990, first-time attempt film-making effort Derrol Stepenny Productions made headlines when it launched Singapore's first English Movie, a full length 100 minute featured film titled "Medium Rare" with Singapore's Economic Development Board's support.

Shown at Cathay Organisation cinemas, DSP awakened Singapore's sleepy local film scene which went without any local film for almost two decades. For five weeks, besides the many scenic spots around Singapore, the film used a variety of settings such as a Peranakan house in Tong Watt Road, a Mount Pleasant Drive house, Giok Hong Tian Temple at Havelock Road, East Coast Park and Pan Pacific Hotel.

Financed and produced in Singapore by DSP, the film was directored by Arthur Smith, "Medium Rare" cast included Singapore's very own Margaret Chan, Rani Moorthy, Neo Swee Lin , Beatrice Chia and Christine Chan. "Medium Rare", was loosely based on the true-life story of Adrian Lim, his wife and his mistress who were executed on 25 November 1988 for their ritualistic slayings of two children.
